H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation and Chair of the Coordinating Committee for the Implementation of the National Strategy for Developing the Informal Economy, and H.E. Heng Sour, Minister of Labor and Vocational Training, convened a meeting on May 29, 2024 to discuss the implementation of social security scheme for the informal sector. H.E. Chan Narith, Secretary-General of the National Social Protection Council, also attended the meeting.

H.E. Hem Vanndy emphasized the vital role of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training in implementing the national strategy, particularly through the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), and proposed the possibilities for the 15 target groups identified in the strategy.

As the host, H.E. Heng Sour provided an update of the achievements within the national strategy, including through social security schemes and skill development program.

The two ministers engaged in an open discussion focusing on collaborative efforts aimed at advancing the implementation of the national strategy within the mandate of the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training.

The Coordinating Committee for the Implementation of the National Strategy for Developing the Informal Economy – tasked with coordinating, evaluating and reporting the progress of the strategy implementation – has been engaging various ministries to advance the implementation and gather progress updates on ministries-institutions’ execution of the strategy.
