On January 6, 2025, H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation and Chair of the National Council for Science, Technology and Innovation, received Cambodian students who won awards at the ASEAN+3 for the Gifted in Science competition, held in Korea from December 21-25, 2024.
“This is a moment of pride for Cambodia, for your families and for you as students,” said Minister Vanndy, applauding the winners, many from Preah Sisovath New Generation School. “Success is driven by dedication, regardless of whether you attend public or private schools.”
Minister Vanndy noted that more parents are recognizing the importance of STEAM education and encouraging their children to pursue it. He added, “STEAM is essential in shaping Cambodia as an advanced economy in the future, particularly by developing human capital such as engineers and scientists for our various industries.”
He encouraged the students to aim higher, become role model and future innovators, and develop technologies that could be exported globally.
MISTI had selected two teachers and eight students to participate in the 14th ASEAN+3 for the Gifted in Science competition. The program featured training, workshops, and study tours aimed at enhancing scientific knowledge and skills and fostering cultural exchange and regional cooperation.
