H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, visited Lesso’s pipe factory in Kandal’s Ang Snoul district on November 21, 2024, and urged the company to develop its Cambodia operations into a strategic hub for exports to ASEAN countries where Lesso currently has no production base.

During a meeting with Lesso’s management team, Minister Vanndy praised the company for its rapid progress since beginning operations in Cambodia in November 2022. The facility, built on an 8-hectare site, employs 168 staff—most of whom are Cambodian—and operates over 50 sets of advanced production equipment to produce various pipe products and components, with a total production capacity exceeding 48,000 tons annually.

“Water supply infrastructure is critical to Cambodia’s development, and high-quality pipes are essential to reducing water loss and enhancing water supply services,” he said.

Lesso is known for producing a range of pipe products for water supply, agricultural drip irrigation, drainage and sewerage systems, and aluminum pipes for various applications.

“I encourage the company to collaborate with financial institutions to offer affordable financing options for water operators and consumers, while diversifying its product offerings such as producing aluminum containers and cans to support local industries,” Minister Vanndy added. 

He stressed the importance of investing in research and development (R&D) to produce durable, lightweight and affordable pipes and advanced products that meet international standards. He also welcomed Lesso's proposal to collaborate with MISTI on developing Cambodia-specific pipe standards to advance the country's water supply and related sectors.

Lesso’s management shared their vision to expand exports to ASEAN countries and strengthen their operations in Cambodia, capitalizing on the strong bilateral relationship between Cambodia and China.

During the visit, the delegation toured Lesso's PVC pipe production warehouses, observed the HDPE pipe production process, inspected the quality control (QC) system, and explored the finished products warehous and storage facilities.
