H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, has encouraged the Japan Alumni of Cambodia (JAC) to expand its role as a bridge between Japanese small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with Cambodian partners.
During a meeting with JAC representatives on March 27, 2025, Minister Vanndy commended the association’s achievements since its founding in 2002, including its growth to nearly 1,000 members and its operation of the JAC Japan Desk, which offers consulting, recruitment, and networking services for Japanese SMEs currently operating or interested in entering into the Cambodia market.
As Japan’s aging society and slow domestic growth push more Japanese SMEs to seek overseas opportunities, the Minister noted that many may face challenges entering unfamiliar markets. He emphasized JAC’s capacity to support these enterprises by facilitating connections and providing localized guidance, as well as supporting local SMEs to find business opportunities in Japan.
The Minister also advised JAC to focus on institutional strengthening, building a comprehensive alumni database to serve as a human resource pool, and diversifying funding sources while maintaining its core nonprofit mission.
