Phnom Penh, February 6, 2025 – The Senate’s Committee 9 of the Kingdom of Cambodia, led by Committee Chair H.E. Um Sarith, received a comprehensive briefing on the 2024 achievements, key challenges, and future directions of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI).
During the briefing, Minister HEM Vanndy highlighted MISTI’s progress across its broad mandates, including industrial development, support for SMEs and handicrafts, expansion of water supply services, advancements in science, technology and innovation, and the strengthening of Cambodia’s national quality infrastructure. He also underscored efforts to develop the informal economy, aligning with Cambodia's socio-economic goals and vision 2050.
H.E. Um Sarith praised MISTI for its progress, noting that Committee 9 members frequently visit industrial zones to gather data and track developments. He expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to receive direct updates and insights from the minister.
The delegation took a particular interest in standardization in bolstering local industries and ensuring consumer safety, and raised critical questions about water supply, especially the sustainability of underground water sources, water conservation efforts, and concerns about the health and well-being of Cambodian citizens.
They stressed that MISTI's expansive responsibilities require a substantial number of scientists.
