On February 5, 2025, H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, received UNIDO’s delegation led by Mr. Gunther Beger, Managing Director of UNIDO’s Directorate of SDG Innovation and Economic Transformation, to discuss ongoing and future collaboration in Cambodia’s industrial sector.
Minister Vanndy emphasized the importance of UNIDO’s support as Cambodia prepares for its graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status by late 2029.
“We have five years to nurture our industries and support local SMEs to meet future market requirements. UNIDO’s expertise in sustainable industrial development and technical assistance are critical in strengthening our local industry, supporting them to link to large industry and global value chain,” he said.
Mr. Beger acknowledged Cambodia’s progress, particularly in industrial development and SME innovation. “UNIDO remains committed to supporting MISTI and the Cambodian government in driving industrial transformation and sustainable economic growth,” he stated.
He highlighted UNIDO-funded CAPFish project, which supports SMEs in the agro-industry and requested MISTI’s cooperation in formulating UNIDO’s new Programme for Country Partnership (PCP) to further integrate Cambodia into global sustainable trade networks.
Minister Vanndy welcomed the opportunity, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration to enhance Cambodia’s industrial productivity and competitiveness.
