A delegation of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI) showcased Cambodia's AI Ecosystem at the 12th China-ASEAN Technology Transfer and Collaborative Innovation Forum, which took place in Nanning City, Guangxi Province, China, from September 22 to 28, 2024.
The delegation was led by H.E. Dr. Hul Seingheng, Chairman of the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology & Innovation (ASEAN-COSTI) and Under Secretary of State of MISTI. During the event, Dr. Seingheng emphasized the crucial role of technology transfer and regional and international collaboration in enhancing Cambodia's innovation capacity and global competitiveness. He said diversifying Cambodia’s export sectors—especially through high-value technology-driven industries—is essential to the nation's economic future.
H.E. Hul further outlined Cambodia's recent initiatives, including the creation of science, technology, and innovation (STI) parks and the establishment of the National Technology Transfer Center. These projects are designed to empower Cambodian businesses and industries by facilitating access to cutting-edge technologies from abroad.
The delegation also participated in an accompanying event, “The 2nd Forum on China-ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Cooperation.” This annual event is a significant platform for ASEAN and China to strengthen their collaboration, aiming to create opportunities for joint technological advancements and regional economic growth.
During the forum, the Cambodian delegation delivered a presentation on Cambodia’s AI Ecosystem, detailing the government's initiatives to promote artificial intelligence as a driver of economic development and a tool to address critical societal challenges such as healthcare and agriculture. The presentation highlighted Cambodia's growing interest in AI applications for both economic transformation and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
The 12th China-ASEAN Technology Transfer and Collaborative Innovation Forum brought together government officials, policy makers, business leaders, scientists, and other stakeholders from the ASEAN member states and China.
In addition to participating in these events, the delegation held multiple bilateral discussions with enterprises and universities in Nanning, Guangxi Province. The discussions aimed to explore collaboration to enhance technology transfer between China to Cambodia, and provide training on advanced technologies such as AI, Fintech, Digital Art, and others.
