On October 31, 2024, H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, received a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), led by Mr. Norio Saito, Senior Director of ADB’s Water & Urban Development Sector, to discuss enhancements in Cambodia’s water supply and sanitation services.
During the meeting, Mr. Saito reaffirmed ADB’s commitment to advancing Cambodia’s water supply and sanitation sectors. Given the interconnectedness of these sectors, the delegation also explored sustainable fee and revenue collection mechanisms to fund these essential services, especially wastewater management, aimed at promoting public health and environmental protection.
Minister Vanndy emphasized the need to strengthen the state’s strategic role in preparing for service disruptions caused by extreme climate events, particularly in water supply. He said the ministry is committed to implementing key measures to advance wastewater services in the country.
He also requested ADB’s continued collaboration and support for clean water infrastructure development, securing water sources, and providing technical assistance to water operators.
With a long-standing commitment to Cambodia’s development, ADB currently supports initiatives such as the $119 million Provincial Water Supply and Sanitation Project and is preparing a $400 million multi-tranche financing facility for urban development, expected for approval by late 2025.
